The Division 2 State of the Game Recap: Rainbow Loot And Agnostic Mods

The Division 2’s State of the Game livestream continued its ongoing look inside Title Update 11 today, with Senior Game Designer Nikki Kuppens and Community Developer Johan Lindholm joining in to talk about Agnostic Mods and fixes to “Rainbow Loot.” A few highlights:

  • “Rainbow Loot,” or items with mixed attributes (denoted by red, blue, or yellow color-coding), is being addressed in Title Update 11. The change will ensure that the first random attribute on an item is the same color as its core attribute.
  • Title Update 11 will introduce Agnostic Mods, removing the color-coding from gear mod slots and enabling players to equip any gear mod on any piece of gear.
  • The final targets in Season 2’s Manhunt have appeared: Titan and Hornet, the Prime Target.

State of the Game streams on Twitch, Mixer and YouTube. To find out what was covered in the last episode, make sure to check out the previous State of the Game Recap.

PRIORITY ALERTS

Maintenance was performed yesterday.

  • Made improvements to the issue of PS4 blue screens, with a ~200 MB client patch on PS4.
  • Fixed an issue that caused targets marked with "Hostile Negotiations" to receive very high, multiplied damage when shooting critical hits at shields
  • Fixed an issue that caused some players to get stuck in an infinite loading screen during the final part of Liberty Island Story mode if they interacted with the door while their character fell unconscious.

TITLE UPDATE 11 OVERVIEW

  • New PvE mode
  • New gear
  • “Rainbow Loot” fix
  • Agnostic Mods
  • Appearance Mods
  • Season 3
  • Bug Fixes

TU11 BUG FIXES

The following issues have been discussed by the community and are confirmed to be fixed in Title Update 11, though there are many more fixes to come. Expect to see more complete Patch Notes closer to the TU11 Public Test Server debut.

STATE OF THE GAME ROADMAP

“RAINBOW LOOT” CHANGES

Senior Game Designer Nikki Kuppens addressed the perception that loot has been “nerfed” since Title Update 10.1:

  • There have been no changes to item rolls per difficulty since Title Update 10.1
  • There is some rounding on stats that only have a few different possible values, like crit chance. The UI may not display this rounding, but this should not affect the actual quality of the loot.
  • There have been specific cases where the wrong tier of loot is awarded, e.g. Bounties or Heroic Control Points resetting to Normal

SKILL TIER ITEMS

  • Skill Tier is a fixed value; under the hood, it still rolls like weapon or armor damage, but this gets overridden with a fixed value. This makes it possible that if a Skill Tier decides to roll high, you’ll see lower bars for the two remaining stats, because the game gives players a certain average. But since Skill Tier is fixed, it may not look like an average to players.
  • Title Update 11 will exclude Skill Tier from the rolling, and the average power will be distributed across the two remaining stats.

“RAINBOW LOOT”

  • “Rainbow Loot,” or gear whose attributes have mixed colors (red, blue, or yellow, denoting offensive, defensive, or utility attributes), has not worsened or improved between Title Updates, because there has been no weighing of attributes in the loot system until now with TU11.
  • The developers realize that many players trying to create or complete a build tend to be looking for items of the same color, while others are hunting for hybrid or fringe builds. The team wants to strike a balance between helping players seeking full-colored builds and those who want more variation in their rolls.
  • Currently, random loot attributes are not weighted, with every attribute having an equal 8.3% chance at being rolled.
  • In the Title Update 11 PTS, the developers will try a new system that will ensure a 100% chance that the first random attribute on a piece of gear is the same color as its core attribute, resulting in a 25% chance that players get the particular attribute they’re looking for within that color.
  • The second attribute will still be chosen randomly, with each remaining possible attribute having a 9.1% chance of appearing.
  • The change will only be applied to new loot; existing loot will not be affected.

AGNOSTIC MODS

  • In Title Update 11, gear mod slots will now be generic rather than tied to a specific color, enabling players to use any kind of mod with their gear. This change will be applied retroactively.
  • The change is being implemented to allow for more flexibility in builds, while making it easier to understand whether an item’s mod slot colors are fixed or randomized.
  • Gear mods themselves will still be color-coded.
  • All resistance percentages for resistance mods will be doubled. This change will be applied retroactively to existing mods.
  • There will also be two new stats on resistance mods, for Ensnare and Confusion.

SEASON 2 CONTINUES

  • The Huntsman League and Reanimated Global Event concluded yesterday.
  • Manhunt Target Titan Now Available.
  • Double XP earned for the next 15 SHD and Season levels earned this week.

Prime Target Hornet now available!

  • Leroux served in the army, and there he struck up a deep friendship with Aaron Keener. After returning unscathed, family tensions left Leroux feeling alienated and alone. During this period, he maintained his friendship with Keener, who convinced him sign up with the Division. When Keener turned rogue, Leroux was the first active Agent to answer his call.
  • Defeat all four Manhunt targets, including Titan, to unlock Hornet.
  • Defeat Hornet to earn the unique Skill variant, Repair Trap.
  • Hornet can be found in a reworked version of the Tidal Basin stronghold.
  • All Manhunt targets are available until Season 2 ends on September 15.
  • The Repair Trap will become available to unlock after the Season through gameplay means.

The Division 2 is available now on PC, Xbox One, PS4, and is included in a UPLAY+ subscription. For more on The Division 2, check out our previous coverage.
