Late last year, Ubisoft announced the opening of a new studio based in Berlin. Ubisoft Berlin is the third Ubisoft studio in Germany, together with the Blue Byte studios in Düsseldorf and Mainz. Today, the team at Ubisoft Berlin has grown to more than 60 employees, and after recently completing extensive renovations, the studio celebrated with an official inauguration ceremony.
"The opening of a new studio is a very emotional and satisfying moment. The studio in Berlin is a new milestone for us and a very important one," says Benedikt Grindel, managing director at Ubisoft Blue Byte. "It shows that we want to grow and make great games in Germany that can compete on an international level. Berlin is a great city for these ambitions as it is one of the most vibrant and creative cities in the world."
Yves Guillemot, Ubisoft's CEO and co-founder, was on hand to celebrate the event, along with 100 attendees that included employees, press, and politicians including Berlin State Secretary Christian Rickerts and Minister of State for Digitalisation Dorothee Bär (who also opened Gamescom in August).
"I am really impressed by the team and their passion to make the best games possible," Guillemot says. "I came to Berlin when I was younger and really fell in love with the city. It's a great place to live and you can do so much in the city."
The Berlin studio has so far attracted talent from inside and outside of Germany. The city is a major draw for expats, and the studio is ideally located to make the most of the best Berlin has to offer. More than two-thirds of the team come from abroad, and the studio has plans to reach 150 employees by the end of 2020.
"In Berlin we have found an excellent eco-system to grow with tremendous support from the city of Berlin and regional partners. Berlin has a vibrant development scene, a talent pool that we want to help grow, and a city that is unbelievably attractive for international talent from all over the world," says Istvan Tajnay, studio manager at Ubisoft Berlin. "I can't wait for the next challenges to come and we are ready to tackle them."
Although only recently formed, the teams have hit the ground running with several co-development projects based on big Ubisoft brands. If you're interested in being a part of this rapidly growing team, check out the all available positions here.
