Ubisoft+ Spotlight - Beyond Good and Evil
(Editorial note: This is a series of quick weekly highlights written by Ubisoft News team writers that feature games available with a Ubisoft+ subscription. We hope you'll enjoy reminiscing with us, or perhaps discover something new.)
Brittany Spurlin, Writer/Editor: The year: 2435. The planet: Hillys. The evil aliens: DomZ. The person who will bring them down: Jade. A photojournalist, Jade lives with her uncle Pey'j in a lighthouse, where they take care of the local orphans. However, the DomZ attack and kidnap several of the children, and while Jade manages to rescue them, the event catapults her on an investigation of DomZ, the supposedly friendly Alpha Sections, the resistance group called the IRIS Network, and a conspiracy deeper than anything she could have imagined.
Beyond Good and Evil's gameplay is largely a combination of stealth combat and puzzles. The game's world is wonderfully realized, and seeing the city change and adapt with Jade's adventure adds a nice texture that enhances the plot. And while Jade's Daï-jo staff is fun to wield in close-combat moments, her Gyrodisk Launcher is a thing of beauty that helps eliminate enemies from a distance, adding to the stealth factor of the game (they're pretty handy in a boss fight, too). Jade also has the ability to take pictures of her environment, uncovering clues and secrets about Hillys that are crucial to uncovering the plot. It's a fun addition that helps players feel like they're actually entrenched in this DomZ-ruled world.
